Moving On Up!

The big news this post was to be our new chickens, but that's been taken down a notch by our latest purchase - a farm!!!!!!
We have signed contracts to buy a 12 acre lifestyle block north of Upper Hutt, New Zealand. Once the LIM and building reports are done in the next 10 days, we'll be unconditional. We have a 6 month settlement date, with the option for early settlement if we sell sooner than that. We also signed tonight with a great real estate agent to sell our place, so it's all systems go!
The place we bought wasn't on the market (!) so I can't link to any photos to show you yet. However, it has 12 acres (about 8 in bush), a fenced vege garden, small orchard (perfect for all my dwarf trees in pots at the mo), a chicken coop and run (for the 5 we are inheriting plus our own 4)one big paddock and a couple of smaller ones, a 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 living room house and a lovely landscaped family lawn leading off the main living areas.
We are right next to Kaitoke Country Gardens Cafe so when all the work gets too much, I have good coffee a 3 min walk away - sad huh?
We are just so excited!!!! This has been our dream for over 10 years, so to finally have the chance to live it is a bit surreal at present.
Ideally, I'd love to be there by my 40th in July. Cross your fingers for us, and if you know anyone who wants to buy a great 6 bedroom home in Stokes Valley............!

Second thing for me to do is introduce you to our new 'ladies':

Nuglet, Beatrice, Molly and Dot
born 9th Feb 2011
We bought a moveable chicken coop on TradeMe, so they have fresh grass to hang out on every day, and cosy nest boxes and perch inside.
We are eagerly anticipating eggs in a few months - meanwhile, they are being well fed. K feeds them dandelion leaves every day after school. He can tell all four apart, which considering they're all the same breed and the same age, is quite impressive!

Cleo the cat likes to sit on the wire roof and observe their antics. Keith and Lucy the other cats are very put out and won't go near the coop. Keith glares at me as if to say "what do you think you're DOING letting them into MY house?" Wait till we get sheep and pigs too - pooooooor Keith.

Finally up and running!

Gosh, this has been a mission! With the camera fixed and time to spare I'm finally getting going!

I've been busy planting out the veges, having raised everything from seed this year in my little greenhouse...

I've put in an orchard ( in pots so we can move them to our farm in a few years),

I've made lemon honey and 12 big bottles of lemon cordial for summer.....

I've knitted cosy merino socks for me...

And lots of kids knits to sell!

I have a stall at the Waterloo School Xmas Fair tomorrow night, Pinehaven School Gala on Saturday, and have booked a table for the Stokes Valley Xmas Parade and Market Day on the 4th December.
Lots of vests, shrugs, ponchos and waistcoats in modern designs and this year's trendy colours (sorbet colours for the girls, greens and terracottas for the boys!)

I need to have a day off knitting on Friday and do the groceries and the baking.
This is my favourite bikkie recipe for when I'm really in a hurry...........
I make them every week with a different addition and you'd never know! I know the basic recipe by heart now.

A.S.A.P. Biscuits

150g butter                                                     1 cup sugar
1 egg                                                              2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder                                       flavouring extras (see below....)

Melt the butter, then whisk in the sugar and egg.
Add Baking powder and flour.
Add your extras - about a cup's worth.......
Roll into balls, flatten and put onto lined trays.
Bake at 180C for 15-20 mins.

Ideas for extras....
sultanas and rolled oats                                   coconut and citrus rind
ricies and milo                                                 cocoa and cornflakes (afghans!)
cinnamon and slivered almonds                       choc chips and cherries
cocoa and peanuts                                          white or dark choc buttons
craisins and hazelnuts                                      coffee and walnuts
mini m and m's                                                dried aprocots and choc chips
jam drops                                                       pink icing and 100's and 1000's

Inspired yet???????

My camera died

Just when I was all excited about having this up and running, my camera malfunctions! When it's back (fixed!) I can put the photos on.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!

A blog at last!
Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting photos of my handknits for you to check out.
Would love your comments!
Today I planted 24 lettuce seeds and 24 broccoli seeds in my greenhouse. I planted about 45 pea seeds into the garden. I am jumpstarting my spring veges. Cauli's and silverbeet are running rampant!
